Bonus Post: The Origin of the Nickname "Bam Bam"

Logan was raised by a single mother. Logan’s father wasn’t around much, and it might have been tough on Logan, if it wasn’t for his mother’s brother, Brian. Logan was a sweet little boy, and he idolized his Uncle Brian. Brian was certainly hero material. He had kind of a blond curly mullet, and in the 80s, he wore cool tinted glasses and fashionable swim trunks when he took Logan for weekends at his cottage. A photo depicting this phase of Brian’s life had recently surfaced at a family funeral, and one of Logan’s cousins had yelled out: “Ooh, Uncle Brian! What a hottie!” The resultant discomfort led to Brian’s wife trying to distance herself from the photo. “That’s not Brian, and that’s also not me in the picture. I don’t know who those people are,” she said, incredibly. The only possible way that what she said could have been true was for doppelgangers to have taken her and Brian’s places at their cottage during the summer. Doppelgangers who not only had access to their clothes, but also their children and their nephew, Logan. The story fell apart completely when their son, Jesse, pointed this out. “It’s ok,” Jesse said, comforting his cousin. “He’s not your blood relative.” Everyone breathed a sigh of relief that the tension had been broken.

Anyway. When Logan was little, Brian’s name was one of his first words, but he couldn’t pronounce the name properly, so he called him “Bam Bam.” It was one of those comedically ironic nicknames, because he was an accountant. It is a well known fact that “Bam Bam” is not a nickname associated with accountants. Also, you couldn’t find a gentler soul than Uncle Brian. It was good for Logan, who got so much attention for his size and strength and athleticism, to have a role model who demonstrated how to be gentle, kind, and loving.

Over time, as Logan grew, it morphed into his nickname. In addition to calling his Uncle Brian ‘Bam Bam,’ he also had a tendency to wave a golf club menacingly in his mother’s face whenever she was trying to read a book. Oh, and he also loved to pound a toy foam sword into the ground whenever his favourite team, the Toronto Maple Leafs, were playing disappointingly. Which happened a lot. So, Bam Bam he became. Strangely, because his mother was one of the only people in his adult life who never used his nickname, it was his mother who called him that first: “Cool it, Bam Bam,” she was often overheard saying, when Logan was young. It had stuck. See? It's sweet.
